Geo-Synthetics

Waterproofing geo-synthetic membranes function by initially absorbing water giving rise to swelling of the membrane. Swelling reaches a point at which the membrane becomes an impermeable barrier to water.

For geo-synthetic membrane waterproofing applications (e.g. land fill and reservoirs), the standard material used for is Bentonite Clay and is used as a Bentonite Clay Layer membrane (BCL).

OASIS SAF® can be processed into a number of different types of nonwoven and knitted composite fabrics which can be used as a water impermeable barrier layer. Such fabrics can be used in geo-synthetic membranes, and which offer a number of advantages over other traditional absorbent media:

• more substantive and compact membrane designs
• ease of manufacture and handling
• less shedding and wastage
• faster absorption and blocking rates

The OASIS SAF® Geo-Synthetic membrane technology has applications in a wide range of civil engineering projects.

Sports Apparel

Effective control of excessive perspiration during sporting activities, offers the individual significant potential for greater levels of comfort. Through the incorporation of OASIS SAF® fabric technologies into sporting apparel goods, perspiration can be effectively transported away from key areas and remain “locked” away.

Diagnostic Packaging

The transporting of medical testing kits, blood and bodily fluid testing materials and medical waste, presents a need to ensure such materials do not give rise to leakage if damage occurs during transit. The incorporation of OASIS SAF® nonwovens as a packaging material ensures that any such potential fluid loss is fully contained with the fluids locked with the fabric for safe disposal. Such OASIS SAF® nonwovens offer significant potential for all areas of liquid absorption within the health care industry, for safe control, handling and disposal of waste fluids.

Freeze Packaging

OASIS SAF® provides a means of offering a highly portable method of chilling perishable goods. When OASIS SAF® fabrics are wetted then frozen, they have the capability to significantly reduce surrounding ambient temperature for extended periods. This then allows for an efficient means of keeping perishable goods in good condition, where normally this would not be possible. When the frozen OASIS SAF® fabrics defrost completely, all free liquid is held by the fabric, ready to be refrozen.
