Immingham Golf Club has been selected as the venue for the next game of the historic Bluestar Fibres Golf Society. The Individual Stableford Competition will tee off at 1pm on Friday 28th May and is being sponsored by Technical Absorbents Ltd (TAL) – a subsidiary of the Carbon Fibre manufacturer Bluestar Fibres Company Ltd.
Bluestar Fibres Golf Society runs seven sponsored golf days out throughout the year for current and old employees, and those of Humber Energy, N C Site Services, Bluestar fibres, Lenzing, BJB Lift Trucks Ltd, Jex Engineering and TAL. Each company takes its turn as sponsor and to provide the winners trophy. This is the second event of 2010 and the turn of Super Absorbent Fibre manufacturer TAL to present the prize to the player with the highest score at the end of the 18-hole course.
The company’s golf society dates back to the 1970’s when the Moody Lane site was owned by Courtaulds. It was run by Norman Sargent and Chris Toyne until the late 80’s along with Colin Gordon, Albert Brierley and Al Page. It then restarted again in the late 1990’s with Father and Son Roger and Darren Bowles.
Since the latest resurgence in 2008 – under direction of Geoff Buckle, Paul Smith and more recently Pete Kirkham – the society has gone from strength-to-strength. The number of members has grown and annual events increased.
General Manager of Technical Absorbents Ltd Alan Jones is proud to be a member of the long-running society. “The society is made up of Bluestar Fibres, TAL, Lenzing and a number of companies from the Grimsby area that they work closely with,” he explains.
“It is a good opportunity to strengthen relationships and to keep in touch with old friends and colleagues that have been associated with the company since the early days. In a busy manufacturing environment it can be difficult to achieve this without such occasions. Golf is the perfect social sport and provides a spot of healthy competition along the way.”
