Rugby Union is a true English sport that was reportedly discovered by accident in the early 1820’s. Today, the full-contact game is played professionally in most countries around the world. It has also become a major part of local sporting life throughout the UK. Bluestar Fibres Ltd has recognised the importance of the game in its surrounding area and has become the official shirt sponsor of one of its main local teams – Grimsby Rugby Union Football Club (RUFC) Seconds – for the 2009/2010 season.
The relationship between the two parties is extremely appropriate as both are committed to supporting the local community.
Grimsby RUFC - in partnership with the local council - is heavily involved with rugby-orientated activities in the town. Its junior section provides: coaching, training, travel and competition for more than 200 registered players; teacher training in many Grimsby and Cleethorpes schools; annual rugby festivals for senior, primary and junior schools at the Club.
Its senior section is just as active with three male teams and a ladies team that is currently pursuing rugby for disabled and disadvantaged people. The players also participate in numerous social events held by the club every year, including national tours, bonfire displays and even a summer ball. These activities adhere to the strong values and principals of Bluestar Fibres Ltd and that of its owner China National BlueStar (Group) Co., Ltd – which in-turn is wholly-owned by ChemChina.
Mr Dave Hill, Business Development Manager of Bluestar Fibres Ltd’s subsidiary company Technical Absorbents Ltd, recently met the players as part of the official shirt handover. This coincided with the team’s first match of the season where they beat neighbouring Scunthorpe 43 to 16. “Bluestar is delighted to be associated with the team,” says Mr Dave Hill. They are a dedicated group of players and – along with the club – are working extremely hard to make rugby union a sport that is enjoyed by and accessible to everyone.

The company name will be seen by every spectator on the front of player’s shirts, on advertising boards and also on match-day programmes.
